John, Graduate Trainee (Business Improvement)

After graduating with a business degree I began searching not only for an interesting, demanding and challenging job but also for an employer large enough (and international enough) to match my ambitions. This is what first attracted me to Balfour Beatty.
After applying I was invited to an assessment centre for a post with Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services, where the experience differed from other potential employers. For a start everything was organised very well and secondly the welcome was warm and friendly; while under no illusions that we were all competing for a job BBIS used the opportunity to show us who they were and really learn about us as individuals.
I am now a graduate trainee working for the Business Improvement department. Every day brings a new challenge and new skills. I have had the opportunity to manage a number of projects assessing knowledge management tools and capabilities while also helping other areas of the business, such as our bid teams. The day to day work is involving but the most satisfying aspect about working for BBIS is the clear commitment to development - as such I will soon be completing a master's degree- and the opportunities for progression available within the company and the wider Balfour Beatty Group.
