Somerset Street Lighting

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services, the highways management and maintenance business of Balfour Beatty plc has been selected as the preferred bidder for Somerset County Council's term maintenance street lighting contract.

The three-year contract, commencing in September is worth £1.8m a year and is potentially extendable for a further three years.

This win adds to Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services' growing portfolio of local authority street lighting contracts, especially in the west, and we look forward to building a strong relationship with this new client.

Tony Shire, Somerset County Council's Portfolio holder for Roads and Transport, commenting today said:

"We look forward to working closely with Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services in providing this important service to the residents of Somerset."

The contract scope includes routine maintenance, replacement and improvement work and emergency response, covering the 47,000 street lights, 4,500 illuminated signs and 1,600 lit bollards across Somerset's county roads. Although the county is predominantly rural, the team will also have to work in some built-up areas, such as Taunton, where the main depot will be based.
